Sackatoga Stable Announces Landmark Partnership with Old Friends Thorougbred Retirement

Saratoga Springs, New York / August 8, 2011 - - Sackatoga Stable, LLC is pleased to announce a ground-breaking agreement with Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement. Recognizing that thoroughbreds deserve a dignified retirement beyond their racing and breeding careers, Sackatoga Stable will donate $10,000 to Old Friends for each yearling purchased at the 2011 Fasig Tipton Saratoga sale. These donations will guarantee a lifetime spot at Old Friends for each yearling when their racing careers are over.
“This is a historic decision made by Jack Knowlton and Ed Mitzen on behalf of the Sackatoga syndicate that recognizes the need for support of their athletes, and it sets a great example for the thoroughbred industry,” said Old Friends Founder and President Michael Blowen.
Said Jack Knowlton of Sackatoga Stable, “We are thrilled to sign this landmark agreement, and we encourage other horse owners to make similar arrangements for their horses once they enter retirement. Old Friends has purchased a beautiful 265 acre horse farm in Stillwater, and we are very proud to be the first NY owners to participate.”
